Soya Chunks : Popular Soy Product Of India

According to me, soya chunks is the most popular soy
product in India. During my visit to India , I saw
soya chunks in almost all the grocery stores I visited,
in cities such as Bangalore, Mysore and Hassan.

Recently I purchased soya chunks in an Indian grocery
store, in Michigan. Soya chunks is from Ruchi Soya
Industries Limited
. The package says, "100%
vegetarian", even though it is also a vegan product.
The word - vegan, is not a popular word in India.

I made Nutrela Matar Pasand, a gravy following the
recipe on the soya chunks packet. It was a simple
recipe, but the taste was wonderful. I loved the taste
and texture of the soya chunks.
The best part is it cooks in a couple of minutes

I ate soya chunks
gravy with pooris made from whole wheat flour. You can also eat it with pita bread or rice.

I'm not a big fan of soya chunks. Had it when I little and did not like it much. My tastes have changed a lot over the years. Maybe it's time to try it now again.Your dish looks like chenna masala. Thanks for sharing on how to cook this. Looks great.

That sounds fantastic. I'm interested to see if I can find those anywhere up here in Vancouver.

Kribha,
While growing up, I never came across soya chunks in Bangalore.

I really liked it when I first tasted soya chunks a couple of days ago.

So many soy items everywhere!

Sarajane,
I'm sure you will find it in Indian grocery stores. They really taste great, and has a pretty long shelf-life.

Hi Kumuda! I like this curry. Sometimes I too make it.

I think these are called TVP in North America--textured vegetable protein. You can buy the chunks or crumbles. I like both, because they really take the taste of what you soak them in. Soak in veggie broth and mix with hummus and celery for a great sandwich filling :)

Soya chunks are used as meat substitutes in vegetarian dishes too.

Wow!! Those look delicious. My dogs love soy chunks too. While many might not like the fact that I don't feed them any meat, I have to say, I can't kill one to feed another!

I'm not a big fan of soya( chunks or granules) but I always have both on hand in my pantry. I try and sneak these in our preparations when possible. The other day my hubby added a bunch of the nuggets to omelette:-). It was pretty good.

Wow. These look good. My Mom uses some soy stuff but I don't know what it is. She also shops at the Indian market in Seattle sometimes and brings home all sorts of yummy things.
