Vegetarians and Vegans in Russia

More than a century ago, the concept of "Vegetarian Diet " was banned in Russia. Thanks to one of the greatest writer - Leo Tolstoy , many Russians have embraced vegetarian and vegan diet for the past few decades.

Traditional Russian cuisine is meat-based. Soups, stews, and pancakes contain meat and butter-milk. Today, famous Russian writers are Vegans .Thanks to internet, youtube , online forums, the concept of vegan diet is rapidly growing in Russia. Russians love Indian culture , tradition and food. I guess this is also one of the reasons for growing popularity of vegetarian fare in Russia...

I'm sure in few decades most of the smart Russians will thrive on Vegan Diet!

Here is our top 10 list of vegan foods in Russia. We stayed in Moscow 2 months and were lucky to have a kitchen and hypermarket nearby.
