Vegan Diet

Decades ago it was considered that meat is absolutely required for a healthy body. Vegetarians were considered to be pale and sick. Everyone from doctors to dieticians discouraged people not to be a vegetarian.

These days everyone seems to endorse vegetarian and even vegan diet. Vegan diet is not only good for you but it also helps our beautiful planet - Earth. Vegan diet is considered to be "Green"

The American Dietetic Association states that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life-cycle including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence and for athletes.

Vegetable Puff

Growing up in Bangalore, I frequently enjoyed eating savory vegetable puffs from bakeries. Vegetable puffs are very popular across India.

I often make vegetable puffs using Pepperidge farm puff pastry. The vegetable puffs are really a breeze to make using puff pastry. If you are looking for a quick Indian snack , I think you should try this.

You can find many great recipes for the vegetable puffs on the internet. You can find my favorite vegetable puff recipe here.

Local Harvest

For vegans and vegetarians, vegetables and fruits play a major role in their diet. If you shop at supermarkets from greens to vegetables, chances are that your produce may have traveled thousands of miles.

Vegan Pizza

For many years I relished eating pizzas brimming with cheese. One fine day, when I decided to become a vegan, I realised that I could no longer eat pizzas with cheese.

As a vegan I started to enjoy eating cheeseless pizzas. Recently I came across numerous vegan blogs with vegan pizzas loaded with vegan cheese. Many vegans had blogged about the Vegan Gourmet Cheese, made by Follow Your Heart.

I recently made pizza with vegan gourmet mozarella cheese, and I was surprised to find out that it tasted so much like real cheese. The pizza was delicious! I'm so happy to find a cheese, which not only tastes great but is also cruel-free.

Where can you find this delicious vegan cheese? Visit this webpage to find stores which carry vegan cheese.

Vegan Restaurants

These days you can find vegetarian dishes in almost all the restaurants. And it's pretty simple to get vegan fare, if you order your pizzas, burgers and salads without cheese.

Sometimes it's nice to visit restaurants where the menu card is brimming with numerous vegan dishes.

Real Food Daily, Zephyr Vegetarian Cafe, The Chicago Diner, and Ethos Vegan Kitchen are some of the great vegan restaurants where I've enjoyed eating good vegan food. I found these restaurants by visiting HappyCow

Before visiting a new city, I make it a point to
visit HappyCow's vegetarian restaurants guide. You can also find numerous vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants by visiting VegGuide , and VegDining

Vegans in Bangalore

A couple of months ago I visited Bangalore, and everyone I met was either a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian. I wondered why there was no huge pool of vegans, in the land of ahimsa (non-violence)- India.

I'm so happy to know that they are some vegans in Bangalore after reading this article in Deccan Herald, a newspaper from Bangalore.
