Vegans in Mumbai

In India it's very easy to be a vegatarian, but it's challenging to be a vegan.
For many peaople in India, the word vegetarian is synonymous with the word "vegan".

Milk and milk products such as ghee and yogurt are considered to be very nutritious. In short milk and milk products play an important role in Indian cuisine.

During my recent visit to India, I did not meet a single vegan. I recently came across a blog - Mumbai Vegans. It's so nice to see that the vegan lifestyle is spreading across India.

Interesting. Vegetarianism is so rampant, but given that it is a hot country, the cuisine also relies a lot on yogurt etc right?

Saumya,

I do agree that India is hot counrty, and so yogurt and buttermilk is used regulary...

But people have no idea about the horrible condition of the milk producing cows. The cows are repetedly impregnated so that they keep on producing milk...

please visit peta india's website to know more about the torture endured by the cowsin India...

Hello there! Just came across your blog and this post. Wish I had known you before :) India is slowly and steadily turning vegan though it is unfortunate that you did not meet any vegan during your trip to India :( To introduce myself, I am vegan... together with my friends, we have just started a blog called vegan-india.blogspot.com. The blog is not even a week old! Through the blog, we aspire to bring stories of vegan businesses and enterprises in India. We hope the blog grows into a reckonable database in a few months. I hope you can visit sometime. I also hope when you are in India next time, you'll not be disappointed as much. Regards.
